Boy Wonder (all time Met fan) decided that Baby Emma needs to be indoctrinated into the fine art of Baseball and has started her out early with the needed uniform.

Bachlor Uncle Andy is already dreaming of taking her to a game. The Onesy says "Rookie of the Year".

We laughed at this picture. Emma looks like she just might break into a cartwheel or maybe she is jumping to catch that high pop fly in the outfield.

Becky and Jerry took several pictures. Some have Emma looking distressed, one even looks like a smile. So regardless how the Mets do this season. Emma has an expression to cover it.

When I was a child the most important man in my life was my dad. In my eyes he could do no wrong. I totally adored the man and some of my best memories of him were the times we spent watching the New York Yankee play baseball.

His favorite team was the Yankees so I grew up watching Mickey Mantle, Roger Marris, Whitey Ford, Joe Pepitone and of course my all time favorite player Yogi Berra.

When ever we played baseball in my neighborhood I was always the catcher. I always wore one of my dad's favorite caps backwards cause I thought it made me look cool just like Yogi. Berra is considered by many observers to be the greatest all-around catcher in baseball history. During his 19-year career as a Yankee, Berra's teams dominated baseball. Berra appeared in 14 World Series and winning ten championships, both of which are records.

Yogi Berra is famous not only for his baseball exploits but also for what have affectionately been called "yogi-isms." Berra, quit school in the 8th grade, and has an unusal ability to fracture a phrase in some of the most unusual ways. Here are a few of my favorite "yogi-isms."

  • "It ain't over 'till it's over"
  • "Never answer an annonymous letter."
  • "I usually take a two hour nap from one to four."
  • "I didn't really say everything I said."
  • " When you come to a fork in the road....take it."
  • " You can observe a lot by watching."
  • "The future ain't what it used to be"

These phrases make me smile and remember some exciting World Series Games that I shared with my dad. The "cherished cap" is now in the possession of my son ( my dad's only name sake). He says I check on "the hat "as much as I check on him and if he ever lost it he could never come home again!

Victory

Saturday's Photo Hunt was on "Dreamin" I posted the picture below of my two youngest at a Mets game. I said a little bit about what how much my son enjoys baseball and is a huge Mets fan. Today he sent me a post on baseball and why he feels so passionately about the game. So here is an excerpt on baseball by "the self proclaimed #1 Mets fan."

"Baseball players are a rare breed...they accept that they will ALWAYS fail. Even the very best players only hits the ball 3 out of 10 times

Only ONE player has actually hit the ball 56 consecutive games,(not times, but games.) In my life i've failed countless times, but just like a baseball player, I smile each and everytime I walk back to the dugout .

The belief that you'll always have another at bat, another chance, another game is inspiring to me...some days you'll go on a hitting streak, some days you'll strike out every time, but you keep trying no matter what.

The best players in baseball get walked when they come up to bat, the best pitchers only pitch one every four games. No player can hit the ball every time. You have to rely on your team mates to help pull you through your mistakes, so that hopefully in the end all of you will win.

Being a Mets fan i've learned to enjoy the hard times, the good times, and the times where the team make you cry. The trick is you never let the good take over your thoughts just as you don't allow the negative to spiral you down...you just keep the hope and keep believin".

Some dreams don't come true.....So close though! Boy Wonder is such a Met's fan that I'm sure he is disappointed that the Mets didn't make to the World Series. Just going to Shea Stadium to a game was a life long dream of his. These are two of my babies (Andy and Suzy).....adorable aren't they?

Go Mets Go
Originally uploaded by imandybennetch.

This is Boy Wonder. The heir apparent....the only son., or as he likes to call himself, "The last starfighter". As you may have noticed he adores the Mets. Not unusual if you live in New York (which he does now ) very unusual if you live in Georgia.

As a little boy we all used to watch the Braves (especially when they started winning.) We lived in Savannah so would make a trip to a Braves games once a year. Going to a game and watching it on TV are completely different.

Some time in high school he became a devoted Mets fan. So much so that he painted his room orange and blue (Met colors) and enlarged and painted the logo on his wall. He even had a Mets logo border around the room.

His love for Mets has continued. He went to college in Atlanta and would go to the Braves home games whenever they played the Mets. For a long time, he and Mr. Wonderful would have a Father-Son outing going to the Braves/Mets game.

Always one "to be in the moment" he would even get Mr. Wonderful to paint his face orange and blue, wear a Mets jersey and cap and the two on them would ride the Marta (Mass Rapid Transite ) to the ball park. I once told Boy Wonder, "you should never doubt how much your dad loves you.....he would never paint his face and go out in public for me!"

Time and distance separate the two from their father-son tradition of attending a game together. Mr. Wonderful rarely watches sports any more but I know he misses the time they spent together at the ball park. I don't think he misses painting his face, but I'm sure he misses the boy that would light up like a firecracker on the 4th of July to attend a game with his two favorites.....Dad and the Mets.

The fourth of July always reminds me of hot dogs, hot dogs remind me of the ball park and the ball park reminds me of my two goofy guys in orange and blue face paint going to a Mets game with all the Atlanta fans.

Have you ever attended a professional baseball game?
