Sunday Seven....Back in the Daisy Patch

1. I'm back home! Praise the Lord ( and my sis) for the opportunity to spend a week with Oscar and his mom. Yesterday my day started at 3:45 A.M. and I found that Laguaria Airport is not difficult at 4 in the morning. Tim helped me with the electronic boarding passes and security isn't very busy early in the morning. What I thought would be my biggest hassle turned out to be really easy.

2. Most of my day was spent at Dulles Airport in D.C. There is only one flight a day that goes into our airport(Shenandoah) and after a two hour delay it was canceled. My sister (watching over me from Ohare's computer) got me on another flight to Charlottesville which left at 12:45. I arrived safely but my bag is still on vacation.

3. Mr. Wonderful met me at the airport and after reporting my "run-away-bag" took me to Chick-fil-a for a late lunch of chicken nuggets and a shared brownie with ice cream. That made me do a "happy dance" but he also surprised me with several home projects that he completed that I had almost given up on. I should go away more often! Yeah Mr. Wonderful!!

4. It's good to be home with my cats, my bed, and my man! I got to sleep all night long! What a treat! I forgot what it is like when you have a new baby. I took the early morning shift so Suzy could catch a few winks.

5. I have lots of pictures of Emma that Becky posted. Isn't she a doll? She looks so adorable. Becky says she kept the wig and hat on the entire time. Becky also had a small Raggedy Anne that Emma carried with her. Emma loved the attention and the chocolate (can you tell we are related?) I'm working on a scrapbook for My Little Raggedy Girl!

6. Speaking of my Canadian Girls.....Becky and Emma will be flying to New York for Christmas. Jerry can't get away but we are so thrilled to be able to get both grands together. You know there will be lots of fun, food and photos. This is the last time Emma can fly without having to purchase a seat for her. Her second birthday is in January.

7. I got to be a part of some of Oscar's firsts. I got to be his first babysitter so his parents could celebrate their first date as mommy and daddy. I had a wonderful, fun-filled time that ended all too quickly. I'm looking forward to having both grands to love on and spoil rotten over Christmas. I love being a Diva to Emma and Oscar.

Hope your week went well. I think I may have found my missing spirit of adventure . I still don't like to travel by myself but I don't think it will be my last outing. Dim the lights, cue the music, and exit thankfully for another busy and memorable week.

The New York Connection

1. I left Saturday morning for New York. I left from our airport in our little Virginia town. I had never been to the Shenandoah Airport so I was delightfully surprised at how nice the terminal is. I was nervous but well informed on how to check in and what to expect. Everything went well and I survived the flights. I had a few anxious moments in Dulles when the flight was late getting in and there was some question if I would be able to fly stand by. I was able to catch the flight and arrived safely to be greeted by Suzy, Tim and Oscar.

2. Here's the boy, just as cute as ever, but now a whopping 8 pounds 4 ounces. He's cute and cuddly and stays awake longer. We have had several conversations early in the morning. What a thrill to watch him grow. He has a sweet disposition and still smiles in his sleep. He looks more like his handsome daddy all the time. He stills has his mama's sweet little bow lips and is very strong for a little man.

3. Halloween is Friday and his mom is trying out various costumes on him. His little shirt says, "There's a new sheriff in town". Isn't he just the cutest?" If you think I brought him some Halloween costumes give yourself a pat on the back. I guess you'll have to stay tuned for the latest in Oscar apparel.

4. Speaking of his sweet mama here's a quiet moment of bonding between a boy and his mom. I remember cuddling with his momma like this when she was this size. How quickly time flies!

5. Tim left yesterday afternoon and about 15 minutes after he pulled out of the drive way the smoke alarms started going off. I was baking muffins and the smoke alarms are really very sensitive to smoke or heat. They are all connected so when one went off all of them went off. Suzy and I were opening window all over the apartment and blowing on the alarms. They are all electric so we couldn't pull out the battery. Leave it to his talented and smart mom to figure out that we needed to turn off the breaker in the fuse box. Would you believe Oscar slept through the whole ordeal? I was really proud of Suzy for thinking her way through the problem. I laughed because it seems like things always go wrong as soon as your man leaves on a trip.

6. Speaking of things falling apart as soon as your hubby leaves...Suzy just got their computer back and got to work on some of her Oscar pictures. Then just before she could post them or email them the computer started to act up again. Thankfully I brought my laptop with me. So I'm hoping to give my girl some computer time to catch everyone up on her wonderful little man. She's thinking of starting a new Oscar blog.

7. I've had some time to post on my Diva blogs. I have Diva's Diary for Emma and Diva's Adventures in the land of Oz for Oscar. I like to post stories about their parents when they were little. You never know when they might need a good laugh about "baby Momma".

Sunday Seven....Glorious Fall

1. I love fall, the dazzling colors of the trees changing their leaves, the cooler weather, pumpkins, colorful mums, hot chili, candy corn, hot apple cider, corn mazes, warm sweaters, downy quilts and slippers. This is my favorite time of the year.

2. Yesterday Mr. Wonderful and our neighbor Mike played Lumber Jack and went to cut some wood for this winter. They worked together and got each household a load. Beckie and I always feel better about having the guys go out together, especially when chain saws are involved. They were quite pleased at the wood they gathered. Mr. Wonderful got our wood heater working today. (You can bigify the picture by clicking on it!)

3. I'm leaving Saturday to fly to New York to stay with Suzy and Oscar for a week. Tim will be out of town and I rarely need a reason to go visit my kids. This is a shout out to my sis for making it possible. Those of you who know me really well know that I don't usually solo, so this is a big adventure for me.

4. I'll be able to experience Oscar's first Halloween. I'm sure his momma will have him all dressed up as Halloween is one of her favorite holidays. I already know that Miss Emma has a cute costume that her momma ordered for her so I'm excited to see my grands all decks out.

5. Okay, this may sound silly but I'm also excited that we were able to pick up some Peppermint Mocha creamer at the grocery store today. It's my favorite and it only comes out in the fall. We got a big size, so my morning coffee will really be something to look forward too.

6. Speaking of the Divine Miss Em....look who has her first pigtails? She certainly is growing up so quickly. We are fortunate that her momma posts lots of pictures and videos of her so we can watch her change.

7. It was good to see my mom and sisters this month. We are rarely together so it makes it that much more special when do. Thanks to both of my sisters for making the trip enjoyable.

Hope your week is going well. We stay pretty busy but I always enjoy stopping to really take a closer look at my world. It's not always easy, but it's never dull. Hope your life is as colorful as the fall trees.

Filling Experiences

1. We are just finished our fourth container for Ethiopia. This past weekend we have been loading bed springs, and bunk bed ends for 440 beds. We also loaded very heavy library shelving as well as wardrobes and solid core doors. All of these supplies are going to Adis Abba for new dorms that are being built in the Mennonite Bible College.

2. We were thrilled to have a group from Savannah Christian Church come and volunteer to help with the physical loading and preparing items for shipment. Most of them are about the same ages of our kids so it felt like having extended family here. Here they are posing with the Missionary Karl Hansen after completing the load.

3. The weekend was filled with hard work but also fun times too. Earl is showing us that this container has everything including "the kitchen sink" not to mention 21 toilet seats, lighting fixtures, mirrors and a lawn mower.

4. Our outing to the Blue Nile for Ethiopian Cuisine was a big hit. The food is served on one big platter and you eat it with your hands. You use a thin piece of bread (like a thin pancake) called Injera to pick up the morsels. We ate lots of unpronounceable items but it was good and so much fun. The group really enjoyed this unique experience.

5. Karl and Vera Hanson are definitely "hands on" missionaries. They worked right along with us loading items or taking bigger items apart to conserve space. It cost about 15,000 dollars to do a container and will take about a month to get into Africa. It can take as long as four month to get it cleared from customs though. Interacting with the missionary really helped the group feel closely unite with the project.

6. Praying over the finished container was a highlight too. What a privilege to send it on it's way, trusting the Lord for it's safe arrival and for the excitement of the students when they help unload this container.

7. My weekend was filled with all kinds of experiences. Some very physical and exhausting, some fun, and adventuresome, some heartfelt and emotional. Saying goodbye to friends is never easy either so this afternoon will be filled with rest. Hope you had a filling weekend too.

1. Just got back from a quick trip to Virginia Beach. We left Thursday afternoon and had a great time visiting with my Mom, seeing other ministries, visiting with old friends and just getting away for awhile.

2. We were able to visit Operation Blessing which is a part of the Christian Broadcasting Network. They have three huge warehouses and distribute 75 to 150 tons of products every week. We were very impressed by the people and the organization. We provide clothing to them that they distribute to other countries.

3. My Mom cracks me up! She had a list of items for Mr. Wonderful to do while we were home. Some of them very simple such as removing addresses from her email address book and making the green light stop flickering on the TV. We also replaced some azaleas bushes in the back yard. We were able to go to a senior banquet with her and go to church with her. I know she gets lonely so it was good to be able to spend some time with her.

4. Just heard that our little Munchkin is sick. It's so hard to be so far away when your baby is sick. It's hard on her momma and really hard on her long distance Diva. Just yesterday she was out playing at the park on one of their first spring days.

5. So glad, my good buddy Floozie is starting to feel so much better. She got off some medication abruptly and it really messed up her blood pressure and her whole system.
Sandy is one of the sweetest, kindest people I know and she rarely lets anyone know how she really is feeling. She has had a really hard month with mood swings, crying, fatigue,
and just plain feeling lousy.

6. Our cats JJ and Lucy were really glad to see us. I'm sure they got lonesome with out us to entertain them. A big shout out to neighbor and good friend Beckie for feeding the cats and loving on them while we were gone.

7. The lilacs are in bloom now. We have two big bushes that are in bloom under my window where my computer is located. I love smelling their fragrance . I love the sight and smell of spring.

It's good to be back home to my own bed and familiar surroundings. Long weekends really give us a needed break and a little perspective. Hope your week goes well.

It's Earth Day....that time in the year where we should all stop and look at what we are doing and what we can do to help pass on clean water, air, and a safe environment to our children and our children's children. Here are some suggestions that are easy enough to implement .

1. Buy local, eat local...for food that can not be grown in your region, such as tea, coffee, bananas, or chocolate, buy fair trade products where these are available. Make use of farmer's markets in your area.

2. Say No to Plastic bags that you use for just a few minutes that may last for years or decades in the landfills. Buy cloth bags and use them instead. Take one with you whenever you go out shopping and use it again and again.

3. Snip Six Pack Rings...Many 6 pack rings wind up in the ocean. Once they are in the water they become invisible to sea creatures and birds that are hunting for food. Sea gulls and pelicans can get the rings caught around their necks or becks when they dive into the water looking for fish. Tangled in the the rings, they can drown, strangle or stave.

4. Don't use Styrofoam cups. Polystyrene is forever: It is not biodegradable. Americans use enough Styrofoam cups each year to circle the earth 436 times. Don't be a mug...Use a mug!

5. Do Guerrilla Gardening: Our cities have more parking lots than parks. More traffic signs than trees. Guerrilla gardeners are people who anonymously plant herbs, flowers and vegetables on vacant land, in cracks in the pavement and by sides of roads and footpaths.

6. Commit to eating a vegetables -only dinner once a week. Producing meat requires a huge amount of resources compared to growing fruit, vegetables, and grains. Twenty vegetarians can live off the same amount of land that one meat eater would require. If Americans reduced their meat consumption by 10% , it would free 13 million tons of grain-enough to feed 60 million people.

7. Commit an act of kindness. Do something for someone else without any expectation of gain or reward. (If you get caught...it doesn't count.) Here are some examples: * Whenever you pass a playground or area where kids play, drop some coins. Do you remember how excited you were when you found coins? * If you know people who are having a hard time financially, put a $5, $10, or $20 bill in an envelope, and mail it to them anonymously. They'll talk about it for weeks, remember it forever, and wonder who sent it.

Plant a garden, go visit a community garden or just go out and hug a tree. For those of you having wonderful spring weather go out and enjoy the beauty of spring with the budding trees and flowers . We can all be better stewards of the planet.

Sunday Seven.....Hints of Spring

1. It's been a hard week for me. Normally Mr. Wonderful and I attack life, work, and worship with great energy and purpose. This past week as been more of a mild stroll than a mad marathon. The flu "hangover" has taken a toll on our energy and motivation. I did get out of the house yesterday and saw some hints of spring, so this is what I'm thankful for this week.

2. Daffodils.....They seem to be popping up every where. There is something very friendly about a daffodil. It's really hard not to smile when I see them waving in the breeze. The yellow color is such a contrast against the bright blue sky. It always reminds me of William Wordsworth poem "Daffodils" especially the last two lines...."and then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils."

3. The crocus is usually the very first flower to stick it's head out of the dirt. It is usually the first bit of color that returns to the earth after a long winter. When the girls were small we would go out to the fields to look for the first crocuses blooming.

4.
Robins.....I've recently seen some really fat robins busy making nests. Some robins can live up to 12 years, according to banding studies. These birds may have built 20 or even 30 nests over their lifetimes! Robins are another sure sign of spring.

5. I'm getting the urge to dig in the dirt and to plant flowers and vegetables in my garden and I am so ready for a spring visit from my Canadian Cuties. Now that Emma is walking I'm sure her Diva will be running after her. Let the race begin!

6. Fresh Strawberries.....growing in the field near our house. Becky and Jerry enjoy picking them as they are so sweet and good. ( Not to mention all the pies, muffins, and short cake).

7. I love the forsythia bushes when they turn their gorgeous yellow . They light up the landscape. They are also one of the first signs of spring that I always look for.

I've decided that I'm going back to work this Monday (ready or not) and ease back into the work. So cue the music, dim the lights and go take a walk around your neighborhood . See what's in bloom, look for all the new baby animals and feel blessed.

Sunday Seven- Easter Edition

1. This is a big Shout-Out to my volunteers from Savannah who gave us a week of their time. We were able to get many areas inventoried as well as processing a whole stage filled with medical supplies. We were also able to palletize 500 boxes of clothing for Operation Blessing headed for Chile.

2. Poor Mr. Wonderful came down with a killer case of flu that has taken him out of commission since Monday night. He has really felt bad with aches, fever, chills, and no energy at all. He has really had a hard time this week and still is not really back to full strength.

3. I've had my medical hat on all this week. First of all was sorting lots of medical equipment and supplies for medical ministries. Later was playing Florence Nightingale to Mr. Wonderful.

4. Anyone want to guess what I got from Mr. Wonderful for Easter? If you said the flu, then score 10 points. I should tell you that it really cuts your appetite. This is the first year that Easter candy had no appeal.

5. If we had to get sick this was the very best time to do so. We have had so many groups that have volunteered over the last three weeks and now we have no other groups till early April. God is good even with out schedule.

6. I was able to hear from all my "chicks "this past weekend. It's always good to catch up with them and find out what's been going on in their lives. Boy Wonder had been in Savannah (first time in over 5 years). Becky had Emma's picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Suzy is getting the nesting instinct and starting to look for baby furniture. Talking with them really made me miss them even more.

7. Praise God for Resurrection Sunday. The tomb was empty . The angel didn't open the tomb to let Jesus out but to welcome everyone else in. We are Easter people. The penalty of sin was paid by Christ's death on the cross but the tomb could not contain Him. The Lord has Risen, The Lord has risen indeed!
