When we last left our heroes......Melli was being mauled by a bear at the Bass Pro Shop in the Savannah Mall . (Some people just can't keep their hands off fur coats!)

Jen was going around in circles on the Carousel being chased by two suspicious looking characters.....

Baba had dyed her hair so she would fit in with the rest of the drama queens without drawing any suspicion.

Floozie was making sure all of us were fed and fussed over ....( ever the wonderful hostess and party planner!)

........and Susan and Jen were trying to pass as Country Girls from Sunnybrook Farm!

News on the internet had linked these Blogger Babes to various sitings and misdemeanors so I (as an investigative reporter donned a costume in hot pursuit!)

I caught up with the Drama Queens at the Savannah Tea Room where they had passed themselves off as "respectable ladies". True to form, they were all in hats, gloves, lace fans and proper manners......so of course they were easy to spot among the casually clothed tourists.

I caught up with them on Tour.....they had slipped into a church (I'm sure for prayer or the air conditioning!)

but before I could question them they had slipped onto a Trolley and blended in with the tour group....I caught glimpses of them now and then but they seemed intend on touring. Reports on the street are that they will be heading to Tybee Island tomorrow for seafood and the beach. More tomorrow......film at 11!

Barbara's Rendition of the "Blogger Babes"

You would think that after a 12 hour drive (which normally takes 10) , several detours, and one "Aha!" moment, followed by a sermon on Gluttony (shoot how did HE know about all those extra calories?), tons of laughter, barrels of bear hugs, and so much picture popping you would swear the paparazzi had spotted some celebrities, that there would be more post about our mad cap adventure. However, I've been told that what goes on in Savannah ......stays in Savannah!

Hmmm.....how fortunate for you dear readers that I (Lazy Daisy) believe in truth in journalism and am here to give you the real truth of our excursions despite the watered down versions that have already been posted.

Melli came to party! She is overly prepared for the Tea Room! Can you say Mad Hatter? I keep telling her no one wears a hat and gloves or dresses up ( but how do you say "NO" to some one who is overly prepared.....especially one who's driving?)

She wants hats and gloves.....then that's what I'll give her! Looks like I may have to borrow some hand cream from Floozie as my hands have gotten quite rough lately and I definitely need a good manicure!
Susan's boys were quite concerned that her blogging buddies might really be "AXE Murderers" disguised as "mild mannered mothers, and sweet silvered hair grannies". Hmmm....maybe she should have listened . Bloggers are a rowdy bunch and you never know who will turn on you. Relax, boys, your mom is fine and a drives a superb "get away car". (Officer, I have no idea who those ladies are!)
This trip is going to the DAWGS.....we already know a certain persons propensity for climbing on things.....now she's got poor Jen running across the intersection (who knows what she told her to to help her climb the Dawgs).

Susan, being a teacher, decided that every field trip should have some rules. Here she is making all "the class" hold on to the rope as we prepare to enter a store. No wonder the whole group turned on her with Axes!

Hanging around with this crew really keeps a girl going.....More later! (Help, I'm being held captive in Savannah by a group of blogging babes.....send more money!)

The Daisy has left the patch!

The Mellinator swooped in last night and after several hours of "catching up" we finally decided to go to bed so we can leave tomorrow.

It's a 10 hour drive ......do you think we'll be talked out by then?

Savannah may never be the same!

Ready or not ....here we come!

No it's not an Episode of I Love Lucy.....just Floozie and me saying goodbye after a fun filled week of adventure in Savannah. The week flew by all too quickly and as usual we tried to cram in a year's worth of laughing, talking, and favorite things into the brief time we had.

Our adventures included a trip to Daisy, GA (about 2 miles from Claxton). Mr. Wonderful had done some research and promised me a trip to Daisy. It is a very small community built on the railroad line. They exported cotton and turpentine. They have preserved several building and a red caboose that was used as a doctor's office. It was a fun trip !

We had lunch at Hirono's where Mr. Wonderful tried to share his cold squid appetizer with us. Floozie was braver than I was and tried some. I declined as I hated to eat something that I knew Mr. Wonderful would like lots more than I would.

We went to the Byrd Cookie Company where I stocked up on Key Lime Coolers (cookies that taste like key lime pie) and Shrimp and Grits. We were forced to taste all the varieties of cookies they make including the newest flavor "Chocolate Key Lime cooler". Floozie bought their orginial Oatmeal Scotch Cookie and kept looking for a glass of milk to top it off.

Savannah has a Flea Market called Kellers, Flea Market and has a huge cow that stands in the entry way. I've always wanted to take a picture of the the cow so Mr. Wonderful went out of his way to make it happen. I love her straw hat and we also discovered that she has a watch and charm bracelet on on her two front legs as well as a engagement ring on her tail.

I got to go shopping with Floozie and my favorite friend Audrey at the World Market. As you can see they quickly found a comfortable place to rest up from our shopping spree. We found all kinds of wonderful and fun items to fill our shopping bags.

We ate lunch at one of my favorite places...."Sweet Potatoes". Talk about your Southern Cookin! I had the vegetable plate that consisted of Sweet Potatoes with apples, corn pudding, collars with lemon, and cold asparagus with tomatoe dressing. It was delicious!

Floozie and I also got to go out to lunch with my good friend and mentor Anna. I want to be Anna when I grow up. I always call Anna and schedule a lunch date first thing before our schedule gets too crazy and too crowded. We always meet at the Olive Garden for endless soup and salad.

No trip to Savannah is complete without lunch at the Tea Room. Floozie arranged for us to meet Baba ,
Betty, and Audrey. I had ham and chive quiche with Peach Tea.

Both Baba, and Floozie won their 300 workouts shirt last week. Both have been very successful and faithful at working out at Curves. I must have been sleep deprived as I saw the 300 and immediately thought they had lost 300 pounds! Floozie and I worked out Monday through Friday last week in addition to running all over town. It was a wonderful wacky, whirlwind week that I look forward to every year. Thanks for the warm hospitality and wonderful memories Floozie!

Today we set out with a mission. We were going to have lunch at "The Lady and Sons" or die trying.

Paula Deen is a local Savannah hero. She started cooking from her home making sandwiches and cookies while her boys took them to local business at noon to sell. She was called, "the bag lady" back then because she sold bag lunches.

She began a business called "The Lady and Sons" and it is a huge success. Since starting the business she has expanded to a bigger building to accomodate more people. She has her own show on the Food Network now. Whenever Paula is in town the lines are much longer.

They don't take reservations so you must show up early and get in line to wait. We arrived at 10 a.m. and actually were seated by 11:20 a.m. (they open the doors at 11). We met up with Jennifer from Tennessee (Happy at Home) who is also a huge Paula Deen fan. We were thrilled just to be there, (Mr. Wonderful was hungry) and the food was delicious.

Since Paula is traveling 8 months out of the year we took a picture of us with her poster as that's as close as we could get today. I'll post it laster if blogger will let me.

What a thrill to meet Jennifer. She is so sweet and Flip Flop Floosie and I fell in love with her instantly. We've adopted her. We dragged her all over the city showing her the sights. I'm sure she will sleep well tonight. So far my batting average for meeting bloggers is a thousand. Not one has disappointed me yet.

Drop over and give my "girls" a shout out. It was an absolutely fabulous day!

Come walk with me down a typical Savannah street. It's lined with live oak trees with silvery romantic Spanish moss. The city has old world charm and reeks with Southern hospitality.

Savannah prides herself on being "the Hostess City". The downtown squares, parks, and massive churches are beautiful. Savannah survived General Sherman's march to the sea and was not burned to the ground like Atlanta. General Sherman gave the City of Savannah to President Lincoln as "a Christmas present".

We lived in this city for 17 years. Our children grew up here and still consider it home. When we come for a visit every year it is like visiting "Disney World". The familiar, sights, sounds, and smells take us back to a sweet time in our family's history. We have to get our "Savannah Fix" and pick up favorites that we can't get anywhere else. I have to get my Benne Wafers (a coastal delight made from benne seeds which taste similar to a sesame seed. I never liked these cookies till I moved away and couldn't get them anymore.) Now a cup of Emperor's Bride Tea and some benne wafers bring me back to my southern roots.

Today being Sunday we saw lots of old friends and this whole week has been a sweet time of reflection, and reunions. We have several more days here till we start our trek back home to the mountains of Virgina. We have enjoyed our time here but it has been a continual blur running to one event from another. "Our dance card" has been full and we have been treated as local celebrities. You know this Diva enjoys being the Belle of the Ball. We may never eat again but we have had our fill of seafood, pastries, Chick-fil-a, Sonic Lemonberry Flurries and good ole Southern Cooking.

As an added adventure I may be able to meet up with another blog friend from Tennessee that will be coming into Savannah tomorrow. We both adore Paula Deen so you know "The Lady and Sons" will be on the top of our "to do list".

I know I have neglected you terribly but I promise to visit you at all your sites when I return. I truly believe Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz had it right all along. "There's no place like home!"

In our exploration of what's new in Savannah we went to an Upscale Grocery Store. This is just a small portion of their flowers. They had a dozen roses for $6.99.

The store reminded me of "Trader Joes" with lots of organic food. Everything was beautifully arranged. It was great "eye candy" without calories.

They are renovating a lot of the older stores to blend in with the historic charm of Old Savannah. Many of the strip malls look very inviting and have an old world appeal. It really does may the city look more appealing and unique.

What's better than Chick-fil-a ?

Chick-fil-a with friends!

Sandy and Audrey are two of my best buds. What fun to sit and talk and catch up on their lives!

Every year I drag Sandy in front of the Cow poster for a picture . (What are friends for except to be dragged into unusual vacation pictures?) Usually the poster reads, "Eat More Chicken!" This one has something about the Royals .....so that's why the beefeater hat.

Here it is my darling daughters. Did you know that you can get American Cheese or Provolone now? You can feast on it without any calories.

By the by......it was really delicious.

Their new catch phrase......"it's my pleasure to serve you." How's that for southern hospitality?

Hmmm.....Chicken Teriyaki with stir-fried vegetables and fried rice.

We love Hirano's. It is a "small hole in the wall" place with the best food in the world.

Forgive me for posting my dinner....but my kids live vicariously through our Savannah visits and hopefully it brings back some warm memories of their youth.

What's with my picture posting ability...does this look like the Tea Room to you? So much for a picture being worth a thousand words. We were recently in Savannah and here are some of the things I really enjoyed. Seeing old friends, revisiting the historical areas, spending time with my daughter at our favorite Tea Room and bringing home some dynamite tea ( emperor's bride) that I'm sipping as I write this. Seeing my son's restaurant and hearing his boss brag and brag about what a good worker he is (music to a mother's heart) laughing with girlfriends (I'd almost forgotten what it feels like, sleeping late, shopping, lunch with my mentor, ice cream at cold stone creamery, Barnes and Nobles....guess I'm still a material girl at heart!

I guess the best treat was being treated like a returning hero. I miss being someone's best friend!
