This is a blue daisy because this daisy is blue. I am now officially in the USA but I am writing this post from the Crown Plaza in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

We got our luggage, went through customs, rechecked the bags, went through security (the third time today) and had checked in to make our flight to Richmond when they asked if anyone wanted to give up their seat for a free round trip ticket good until next October, hotel room, dinner and breakfast vouchers and assurance that we could be in Richmond by noon tomorrow.

Mr. Wonderful's hand shot up like fireworks on the fourth of July! So here we are in Minneapolis....tired but thrilled that we will be able to make our spring visit to see our baby and her baby.

It was a well timed trip and a wonderful visit but I do think they will need time to bond with their new baby and to work out their routine by themselves. Poor son-in-law needs some down time without whirlwind Daisy and dynamite Daddy rushing in to overwhelm them with unsolicited advice or totally taking over.

It's a southern thing that we consider quite charming but can be intimidating.

Home is looking better all the time but for tonight I'm bunking with my sweety in a king size bed, with a full stomach and the promise of spring....new life, and a free ticket to Saskatoon. Can life get much better than this?

I'll catch up with ya in the daisy patch.

I think I've always wanted to be nurse.

One year for Christmas I received a nurse's uniform as a Christmas gift along with a child's medical kit. From then on, all my dolls and stuffed animals were constantly patients at "my hospital". They were bandaged, operated on, and unfortunately not all of them survived.

One new doll had eyes that opened and shut. I was intriqued to find out how they worked....consequently I punched out her eyes. I must have felt bad about blinding her as "Winky" became my favorite doll.

My Aunt Aggie was a registered nurse. She was a public health nurse in rural North Carolina and every summer would let me ride around with her to visit homes, and give lectures at the schools. I adored her and always felt important that she let me "help" her.

One day we went to a clinic where she "lectured" many black mothers about the importance of getting their children "shots" for school. I was 5, lilly white, blonde hair and blue eyes so naturally "stood out in the crowd of black faces".

I remember asking her after the meeting, if she saw me waving at her. She laughed and said, "Child, you looked like a moth ball in a sea of prunes!"

I went to Old Dominion University and got my degree in nursing. My Aunt Aggie was at my college graduation. The ironic part of this story is that when I went to take my state boards to be licensed as an RN "Hurricane Agnes" came through Richmond and we had to evacuate before finishing the two days of testing.

I went into nursing through the influence of an "Agnes" and almost was done in by another Agnes? Coincidence? Who influenced you in your career?

I broke my arm in the first, second and third grade.

It really wasn't that hard. I really never had to work at it.
(Just call it a natural ability).

I am the middle child in my family. Seems like I spent most of my childhood running after my big sister hoping she would let me play. Like most pesky kid sisters I would do outrageous things to get her to pay attention to me. (Yes, I was an exhibitionist even back then, thank you for asking!)

The first time I broke my arm I was roller skating on broken payment. We had skates that clamped on to your shoes with a skate key (anyone remember them?) My sister was riding a bike and I was trying to "keep up with her on my skates". She did not want me following her so rode faster than I could skate. I went down a small incline too fast, couldn't stop so slammed into a parked car. The doctor called in "a green stick fracture". It was my left wrist and I wore a cast for six weeks . It itched, covered my wrist and elbow, and my sister carried my book bag for me.

The following year I really broke my arm! No green stick fractures for this kid. I was playing on the monkey bars at the park. I had seen this neat trick on TV and thought I would attempt it. It consisted of hanging upside down ( no one had explained gravity to me and my attempt was quickly crushed as well as my left arm!) I remember going home with my mangled arm telling my dad, "I can't bend my arm." I had surgery to repair my left wrist. We went to the same ER, same doctor and I wore a long cast for six weeks. It was hot, it itched, it smelled funky by the sixth week and it didn't get me out of any school work. My sister started calling me a "klutz" and made me carry my own book bag.

The following year I broke my arm again. This time it really wasn't my fault. We were playing touch football in the yard. We had all the "big kids" and even some of the dads were playing with us. I had the football and was running for the goal when I got tackled by a dad. A big dog pile ensued and the arm around the football was crushed and I had the wind knocked out of me. I left the game crying and was called a "baby" by the dad who fell on me. Again, same ER, same doctor, same outcome . This time my sister made me go over to the neighbor's house and demanded he apologize to me for calling me a baby.

When I went to get the cast "cut off" the doctor looked at me very gruffly and said, "Young lady, you break this arm again and I'll cut it off!" I believed him and never broke my arm again!

Have you ever broken a bone?

High School Pic - Mom
Originally uploaded by peachicken.

My birthday came on Saturday while we are at the National Missionary convention in Atlanta. I was able to have a celebration lunch with my gal pals. It was a great time of sharing, laughter, and fun. Thanks to each of you for making the day special.

The missionary men in my life, sang "Happy Birthday "to me in four parts ( what they lacked in harmony they made up with enthusiasm!) Thanks guys for letting me take time off to be celebrated!

The ring leader asked me if this was my 18th birthday to which I replied, "Yes, I'm 18 again for the third time!" ( As in 18+18+18, you do the math, I don't want to know!)

SO in honor of my 18th birthday....here's to the girl I was , to the mother I am and to the wise woman I am becoming!

Thanks for all the calls, cards, gifts and warm wishes.
