It's official, everyone in my family blogs now. Mr. Wonderful was converted by the pleas of his family that he have his own voice to tell "the other side of the story". (Not that my stories are not absolutely truthful or biased in any way!)Labels: Charlie
About one week after our wedding, Mr. Wonderful and I were coming back from our honeymoon and stopped overnight to visit with his sister and her family.

Isn't he cute? This is my Mr. Wonderful over 35 years ago. He wasn't my Mr. Wonderful back then.....he was Mr. Shy Awkward Nerd.
I met Mr. Shy Awkward Nerd in Sunday School . I had seen him once before and was determined to meet him, so determined that I went to Sunday School after working the night shift.
I came early, he was late!
I was hoping to sit with him during church, he decided to sing in the choir!
I lingered longer after church hoping to run into him, he went directly to his car.
Fortunately he was parked behind my car and we ended up going out to lunch together. He took me out for pizza and I ended up paying for it. The more embarrassed he became the cuter he got.
I went home amused and intrigued.
He went home and called his mom about this Virginia Beach nurse he had met.
His mom told me later that she knew he was smitten right then and there!
I met him in March, was engaged by April and married in July.
Slowly over the years he began to be less shy and awkward. He gained confidence, a measure of success, life experience and three lively active children that knocked off the rough edges of two inexperienced parents.
This July will be 33 years. ( and he truly is....My Mr. Wonderful!)

It's Father's Day and this is the typical "look" around here. Sunday after church is a time to rest, nap, read, watch tv or a movie.
This is My Mr. Wonderful and the other "male" that lives with us....our very cuddly cat JJ. When not watching birds at the feeder, or taking a nap, JJ likes being close to "dad".
I was going to write a lovely tribute to my Mr. Wonderful about his being a wonderful dad, husband and friend but I didn't want you to think I was bragging! (Just the facts....)
So here's to men in my life....You're the Best!

This is My Mr. Wonderful standing next to a Gutenberg Bible at the New York Public Library. It was printed in 1455 using moveable type. 180 Bibles were produced in 3 years ( the amount of time it would have taken to hand write one copy.) Pretty remarkable accomplishment!

This is the reading room at the New York Public Library. What a great place! The architecture is amazing. The even have a Gutenberg Bible on display. (One of the hightlights for Mr. Wonderful!)
We could have easily left him here and picked him up at the end of the day.

This picture was totally staged for effect.
But the reality took place this past Sunday as Charlie preached in the pulpit of two Lutheran churches in Lexington, Virginia.
They weren't just any churches but churches his dad pastored for 20 years.
Churches he had grown-up in as a child.
Bethany Lutheran has a building that is over 100 year old.
It's a beautiful small church with stain glass windows and high ceilings.
Many of the people have moved away, died out, or left the church,
Those that remain have come to hear " Dr. Bennetch's youngest son, Charles."
Not because he is such a great "missionary" or "speaker" ...........
But because of the love and honor for his mom and dad
long since with the Lord but forever in their hearts.
It's humbling and gratifying to know your parents made a difference
in a very small community
to a handful of people
who still remember.
