Well, my day in court was short lived. We arrived early and court started early. I was told that traffic court is also called the"Rocket Docket" as it moves rapidly.
My first anxious moment occurred when I noticed that officer that issued the ticket was not in court. Often times , if the officer is not present, the case gets thrown out. "Oh sweet Jesus", HELP, " I prayed sending up a prayer flare! I voiced my concern to Mr. Wonderful in whispered panic. He smiled sweetly and whispered back, "It's still early, calm down!"
The second wave of panic hit when I saw the older woman who hit me had brought an attorney with her. "Oh Great, "I thought "I'm sure she's going to plead not guilty."
When the case was called, I found out that her attorney had worked out arrangements that she could plead "Not Guilty" for insurance purposes. The judge was very nice and asked her if she had been distracted which she adamantly denied. She had never been in an accident and never had a ticket in 83 years. The judge smiled benevolently and told her in Virgina the pedestrian always has the right of way, especially in a parking lots . She was found guilt by the judge and fined and her insurance company will pay my medical expenses.
I was never called as a witness. My Mr. Wonderful stood up in court and asked to address the judge after she was ushered out of court to pay her fine. The judge gave him permission and he asked if the judge would stipulate that she pass an eye exam as he had been told that she had cataract problems and would seriously question her ability to see. To our surprise and delight the judge agreed and it will be added on her driving record.
Thanks for your prayers. It was handled before I ever entered the court room. I'm so glad that this part is behind us now. God is good, all the time, all the time, God is good.
