Happy Anniversary Friend of Friendless International Marching Band.......Can you believe it's been a year?

Have some Cake? Carol, blow out the candle!

The band is the brain child of our fearless conductor Carol, a self proclaimed " I Love Lucy" wannabe. She got the idea of the friends of the friendless marching band from an classic episode where Lucy thinks everyone has forgotten her birthday and is in the park crying feeling lonely and friendless. Carol, took it one step further and decided that a "band of bloggers" should visit little known sites that had very few comments and bombard them with the sweet sound of praise and assurance that they were being read and appreciated.

So Friendly Friday was initiated on August 19, 2005.

It's a rather strange band with a current role of 50 people. The instruments vary from kazoo's to rolling pianos. The march has taken us to many interesting places and several international locations. One of the more unusual places was the cupcake site.....it was delicious even though we did get frosting on our instruments.

The band has played at several functions this past year . They were featured at the closing of the Blog Olympics where they played "You're So Vain" to the applause of all blogdom. They also played in the Blog Olympic Easter Parade and several Blog Parties. They do know how to boogie down and party!

I personally have enjoyed most of the sites we came marching through......even though many did not like being classified as a "friendless site".

It has been great to form some lasting friendships with many of our band members.....all of you have taught me some special lessons......

J. Andrew taught me what a tanka was (I thought it was for military use) and showed me a whole world of meaning in very few words, and syllables.

Mompoet showed me great humor and exposed me to spontaneous poetry.

Friday's Child demonstrated graciousness and hospitality where ever we went.

Stephen
inspires me to take my writing more seriously as he entered the National Novel Writing Contest.

Sister Celtic makes me laugh and taught me not to be afraid of CAPITAL LETTERS!!!!

Dave turned out to be a wild crazy man with a gift for stirring up controversy at the Blog Olympics......honestly David, your imagination is wonderful.

Mango taught me graciousness even without ever having a blog. Your comments were very sincere and well thought out.

Kilired never knew a stranger and was always larger than life, and definitely up for partying all night long.

Barbara taught me what blogging was all about and introduced me to a brand new world. I recently read that she believes that leaving a comment is just good manners and compared it to "tipping at a restaurant".

Carol, you taught me the most. You were always kind, and persistent as you searched for blogs to visit. You made us into a cohesive group.....a force for good.

So I'm ready to celebrate our anniversary ! Bring it On!

Hello!
Happy anniversary fellow bandmate! What a lovely tribute to our marching band members. You are not only a really nice lady and a talented reporter (that Olympic coverage was fabulous!), you play a mean sax. March on!

Awwwwww... I never knew! I had heard of the band but didn't know you guys had a "mission"... that is very sweet! I can't even carry a tune in a bucket, but I wouldn't mind visiting some lonely little blogs... my son might let me borrow one of his drums... you don't need rhythm to play them do ya? OH! I have a Gym whistle! I can play that!!!

Oh... and Daisy... trust me... there was no 'swooning' happening... nor anything else even remotely ladylike... it was all quite THUDish... I'm taking it easy today!

Daisy - You are such a talented writer, I agree with Stephen, you need to take it seriously. What a wonderful tribute to a great group of bloggers. While you may have learnhed a few things about blogging from me, I learn about writing from you. You effortlessly write things that I would have to painstakingly rewrite several times to be half as good. Your graciousness always shows through in your writing. I always read your comments on other blogs, looks like you read one of mine, the one I left on Mrs. Lifecruiser's about comments.
Because the FFMB is all about comments, it's worth repeating my thoughts on comments. Please people - don't be a lurker on your favorite blogs. Your favorite bloggers are probably talented people and they are freely sharing their talent with you on their blogs. Throw them a bone, write a nice comment once in a while. Most bloggers LIVE for comments, it is the currency of blogging (along with links). If you don't comment a blogger may assume that they aren't being read and give up their blogs. No one wants that to happen! So comment already.
Carol understands the power of comments and how they show appreciation for the efforts of bloggers. It was a no brainer for me to join her band. It's been a great FFMB year. Congratulations to Carol for her wonderful idea brought to fruition.
