This is Boy Wonder when he was in kindergarden . Boy gets "spring fever" every year and it became most noticable when he started school.
Always a cutie and charmer, he did well in school until spring hit and then.....it was as if his brain left the building. He would stare out the window and be lost in his own little world.
One spring day he brought home a notice that his teacher wanted a conference with us. He assured me that "he hadn't done anything naughty" and he had no idea why she would want to see us.
Mr. Wonderful and I met with the teacher and after telling us what a delightful child Boy Wonder is, stunned us by her next question.
"Are you having marital problems?" she asked.
I was definitely shocked that she would ask and wondered what had prompted the question. "No," we assured her. "Why would you ask?, has Boy said anything that would give you that impression?"
"No," she assured us, "but when a child that has been doing well in school suddenly becomes distracted and doesn't finish his work I have to think that maybe there are problems at home."
Apparently the class was given work to do at their desk. Boy had on a shirt that buttoned and had slipped his big first grade pencil through the top button hole ( it looked like a big bow tie). He was sitting quietly at his desk staring out the window.

His teacher came by his desk and noticed he wasn't working on the assignment. "Boy why aren't you working on your paper?" she asked.
Without even glancing at her he responded, "I ain't gots no pencil!"
Did your kids ever go through "spring fever"? How did you handle the situation?

They're the kind of kids whose spirit doesn't seem to be contained by the walls of their classroom. Or by much of anything, come to think of it.
I'm looking forward to seeing what others have to say. It's a fine line between following the rules of the world and allowing a child's spirit to break free.
If only the answer were a little simpler.
