Go Mets Go
Originally uploaded by imandybennetch.

This is Boy Wonder. The heir apparent....the only son., or as he likes to call himself, "The last starfighter". As you may have noticed he adores the Mets. Not unusual if you live in New York (which he does now ) very unusual if you live in Georgia.

As a little boy we all used to watch the Braves (especially when they started winning.) We lived in Savannah so would make a trip to a Braves games once a year. Going to a game and watching it on TV are completely different.

Some time in high school he became a devoted Mets fan. So much so that he painted his room orange and blue (Met colors) and enlarged and painted the logo on his wall. He even had a Mets logo border around the room.

His love for Mets has continued. He went to college in Atlanta and would go to the Braves home games whenever they played the Mets. For a long time, he and Mr. Wonderful would have a Father-Son outing going to the Braves/Mets game.

Always one "to be in the moment" he would even get Mr. Wonderful to paint his face orange and blue, wear a Mets jersey and cap and the two on them would ride the Marta (Mass Rapid Transite ) to the ball park. I once told Boy Wonder, "you should never doubt how much your dad loves you.....he would never paint his face and go out in public for me!"

Time and distance separate the two from their father-son tradition of attending a game together. Mr. Wonderful rarely watches sports any more but I know he misses the time they spent together at the ball park. I don't think he misses painting his face, but I'm sure he misses the boy that would light up like a firecracker on the 4th of July to attend a game with his two favorites.....Dad and the Mets.

The fourth of July always reminds me of hot dogs, hot dogs remind me of the ball park and the ball park reminds me of my two goofy guys in orange and blue face paint going to a Mets game with all the Atlanta fans.

Have you ever attended a professional baseball game?

I've been to one pro ball game...my sister and her boyfriend took me to see the Rangers vs the Angels when I was in 6th or 7th grade. It was overwhelming, especially when she sent me to try to buy her a beer (! yeah, I dunno either) and I got lost trying to find my way back to the seats.

Still, I had fun!

Ugh, a Mets fan. It was a surreal week for me in which I was forced to root for a team I loathe (Red Sox) to beat another team I loathe.

LET'S GO YANKEES!! :P

Here from Michele this time.
No I haven't. I have been to one pre-season football game in Philadelphia... Eagles vs. Steelers. The kicker at that time had only half a foot. But with that half foot, he kicked a 65 yard field goal.
In the eight years I lived in Dallas, my now ex would not let me go to a Cowboy's game. I didn't like the Cowboys and would cheer for whomever they played. If the Soviet Union had a football team I would have cheered for them when they played the Cowboys. The Dallas fans are "rabid" and I mean "rabid" and he always thought we would get stampeded and stomped because he knew I couldn't keep my feelings under control for a whole game, much less a quarter.

In addition we were poor and even then the Cowboys really thought a lot of themselves in their ticket prices.

Your hubby is a VERY brave(no pun intended) man.

I've been to the Orioles a couple of times, usually when someone else pays. I like minor league games better because they are more casual.

It's amazing how some things whenever we see them remind us of so many wonderful, warm memories of ourselves, our kids and our families. Like yours I also have fond memories of other things. We just didn't go to ball games because there weren't any where I grew up.
My Monday Memories is up too.

I went to a few Red Sox games and sat in the bleachers. I certainly couldn't afford a real seat!!

We prefer the minor leagues - food's cheap, seats are great, the games are good and you don't have to worry about the fans covering you in beer or anything else for that matter...

My mm is up, too.

I love the father-son connectedness of this entry. How seriously touching.

I attended a Mariners game at Safeco Field in May. I took zillions of pictures and took my kids through them on my laptop when I came home. Slideshows help make the faraway a little more real to them.

London is home to North America's oldest continually-operating baseball field. Labatt Park is the kind of gorgeous facility that movies like Field of Dreams have been romanticizing pretty much forever. I could live in the stands if need be, but I'll settle for a few hours there on a Sunday afternoon with my family.

Lots of times. My first baseball game ever was when I went with my dad and my grandpa. It was at the old Met stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota. Now of course we have the Metrodome. I had some of the best times with my dad, attending both football and baseball games. My dad is the reason I became a sports fan.

That was a beautiful father/son memory. We have gone to a few Ranger games, usually the cheap seats. They are fun but I get distracted too easily. 4 balls/3 strikes & countless number of fouls?? Come on, can't the game move faster than that?? But we do enjoy going, I just don't sit & watch the game; I'm usually walking around shopping or eating! LOL!

Yes, I have...Cubs of course living with my Mr. Wonderful all of these years..In Chicago of course too. I was never so bored in all of my life!! I was delighted with the frozen ice cream things though and finally learned to take a book with me. How men can sit that long and just watch and watch is beyond me!! I have more important things to do in this life!! smile!!

Hi Daisy - I've been to more pro baseball games than I can count. Most of them the Yankees were playing. I've been to several at Yankee Stadium, and others where the Yankees have played away games. I bet there's not many Yankee fans in Savannah either.

You have the best memories! You must have a wonderful life!
