"If you don't need stitches, you're not hurt!" This is a statement that My Mr. Wonderful uses frequently. Our children will know the statement well as it is part of their Dad's "Mr. Macho" persona.
We do very physical work. Hand loading shipping containers is one of those jobs. Mr. Wonderful is very good at being the load master. So good that he always gets this job. It means that he has to pick up and place each item on the shipping container. The last few days have been very exhausting as we are doing back to back containers for a mission in Haiti. The first container went pretty fast and we had some extra help with the loading.
Today we started the second container. We had fewer people and everyone is tired from loading yesterday. We were loading light fixtures when I was called to help Mr. Wonderful. The urgency in their voices signal the nurse in me that it was an emergency. Sure enough I see my husband of 32 years with a bloody handerchief wrapped around his right hand .
"Let's go," he says. "I have to get stitches!" This is a man that never complains and never says," take me to the doctor", much less "I have to go get stitches." He held pressure on the hand while I drove. I never asked to see the wound or question his judgement.
Forturnately they were able to take him right in at our local clinic while I filled out the paper work. We were in and out (with a considerable lighter wallet) in less than an hour. I didn't realize how shook up I was till I couldn't remember our phone number. (Honestly, I never call myself and it's programed into the cell phone!)
I know this man so ask the Dr. while he is in the room if he can go back to work. The doctor looks at me like I'm crazy and assures me that he needs to go home and keep his arm elevated.
He's already talking about finishing the container tomorrow.
Honestly......"All men are stupid and I'm married to their King!" Bless His Heart!
