Grab your passport and head on down to the land of Hobbits. Blog Olympics are being held this Saturday by our own Wendy Wings. New Zeland is our destination and our search for "the ring" is part of the Blog Olympic Ring Training Camps.

New Zealand is known as Middle Earth for its Lord of the Rings trilogy. New Zealand born Peter Jackson filmed the entire three films in various locations around NZ.

This Academy Award winning trilogy of films (4 Oscars for The Fellowship of the Ring, 2 Oscars for The Two Towers and 11 Oscars for The Return of the King - including Best Film and Best Director awards) showcased the skills of the cast and crew. One of the big winners however was New Zealand. It took two years to film the LOTR trilogy but millions of years to build the sets.

To find the time (remember NZ is always in the future from US time) please check the clock at Blog Olympic Headquarters. As usual, the game will be up for 24 hours and winners will be posted at the host site as well as Blog Olympic Headquarters.

In keeping with the Lord of Rings theme I came up with some startling comparisons to the movies and some of our participants.

News to Make You Snooze:

Our hostess ( Wendy Wings) looks remarkably like one of the Elves of middle earth.

Elf Fact: Elves typically have fair complexions and coloring.

Old old lady of the hills is actually Elven Queen Galadriel.

· Elves are immortal and do not physically age

· Elves do not grow weak as they age, only wiser and more beautiful

· Elves have more beauty than any creatures on earth, but also possess the most extreme happiness and sorrow

The Gnome will have many friends in NZ due to his Dwarf- likeness.

Dwarf Facts:

· Dwarves are four to five feet tall with the male Dwarves long-bearded.

Our own Barbara has remarkably similarities to Gandolf the Wizard. " When Gandolf comes you simply know that there is something about to happen." She has remarkable technical skills and the ability and forsight to pull them off.

Wizard Facts:

Wizards possess great powers of body and mind

· A wizard's appearance resembles that of an old man, although they age slowly and are actually physically vigorous (Didn't I tell you she was really a man?.....was I wrong?)

Naturally our own bad boy of World Domination can relate to the Sauron.
Now no more than a terrible will, Sauron appeared as a great Eye, lidless and slitted, wreathed in flame. Against his piercing gaze none could stand. Did you notice the similiarities in names Sauron / Scourser ?

I know many of you have already gotten the comparison of Killired to Gollum. Gollum was the wretched creature transformed by the Ring....."The Precious" .
Not to say that Killired is obcessed by being in first place and in control of the gold ring(s). By the way....she looks much better than this picture (it was before her first cup of coffee!)

Crazie Queen, Cozy Reader, Mar, TnChick, Melli, and Yellow Rose are actually Hobbits.

Hobbit Facts:
Hobbit height ranges between two and four feet tall.

· Hobbits have pointed ears.

· They have oversized feet and never wear shoes.

· Hobbits have curly hair.

· Hobbits love to eat (six substantial meals a day), brew ale, smoke pipe weed, and garden in the Shire where they live.

Did I prove my point? Hmmm.....maybe I'm a Hobbit too!

Don't forget.....July 1 st at Wendy Wings......Be There or your may be chased by an Orc from Middle Earth.

I don't wanna be chased. No way... I should be at Wendy's - barefoot and all!

I will be putting up the Blog Olympics post at midnight PST July 1st for the majority of the contestants. I went with that rather then NZ time, it gives us time to wrap up the auditions etc then move onto the BOTC. Busy elf girl that I am :)

So cute all of you. Me I would love to be an elf. I love the long flowing robes they wore and the cute braids in their hair! This time thing is really making me crazy but I think I have it all figured out. Lazy Daisy thanks for this very informative run down on who's who. I will keep my eye out for them. Not that I have much of a chance starting in the BOTC this late but one never knows!!!!

Oh man! I'm gonna be at the zoo most of the day but still have full intentions to play tomarrow. Maybe I can sneak on early before we head out. Yeah, that's it! :-) And I loved the LOTR movies.

Daisy - Are you wandering from the daisy patch to the mushroom patch more frequently lately? I am simply not a man, but I do like the other attributes! See you all at the Olympics! 3:00 AM EST on Saturday, July 1!

You crack me up, LD. You do a lot of work with the Blog Olympics. You do a good job.

Interesting story (or maybe not--lol). My mom is tiny (as am I and my daughters are following in that way as well)with red hair. We have always told the kids that she is a leprechaun and her screen name (she chats online and plays poker online) is elf.

YEA!!!!! I'm a Hobbit. I think that is wonderful. I think the description pretty well fits...I'm short, I love to eat and my ears do sort of have a point. However, I do feel somewhat gyped...I didn't get the curly hair. Oh well!!
Lazy Daisy, you have a wonderful imagination...either that or you have been drinking (JK)
