Have you ever taken on a task so big that you knew if God didn't help you with it, you were bound for failure? We just completed such a task this afternoon.
We were given a month’s extension to send out one more container of used clothing under last year’s quota for Tajikistan . There were some considerations to think about before undertaking this task.
· The month is the shortest month of the year with only 28 days.
· It takes about 1000 boxes to fill a container and we barely had 400.
· Weather conditions are unpredictable making it hard to schedule groups.
· The clothing has to be hand sorted before being boxed.
· Did we have 30, 000 pounds of clothing needed to fill the boxes?
· We have never been able to do more than 500 in a given month.
In the flesh it is an impossible task, but our God is an awesome God. The more I whined and complained, the more God showed me that He was in control and really didn’t need my assistance.
When we were two weeks into the month the clothing was totally gone. We had two Mennonite youth groups in last week. One group did 121 boxes and the other group did 100 boxes. This morning we had 941 boxes completed and needed about 60 more. We completed 86 boxes today (more than enough) to fill a shipping container. This afternoon one group did 75 boxes for 2475 pounds.
One group of senior and junior high girls also completely went through all the bags of medical linens that had been donated to us. They separated the good sheet, pillow cases, patient gowns from the ones that needed simple repairs. The ones needing repairs will be taken by some local churches and fixed. Our hospital linens will be shipped to cuba and all over the world.
God is good, all the time. It was a very humbling experience to be a part of this task and know without a shadow of a doubt who worked out all the details, volunteers and supplies.
